Why Gateway Montessori?

Why Montessori

The Montessori Method is designed to help children fulfill their potential in all areas of life by utilizing a “whole child” approach. The activities and curriculum therefore promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination, as well as cognitive preparation. Children learn in what is called a “prepared environment” – classrooms that are designed to support the learner in every stage of development. A Montessori classroom provides the necessary resources and opportunities for children to function in a safe, positive, and non-competitive climate, where they work at their own pace under the guidance of specially trained teachers, known as Directresses.

Montessori is based on a profound respect for a child’s personality, and encourages children to develop their independence and build their self-esteem through meaningful action. The method has helped to prove that the small child can be a lover of work – intellectual work, which is spontaneously chosen, and carried out with profound joy. The curriculum is based on the child’s inner need to “learn by doing”. At each stage in the child’s mental growth, corresponding materials are presented which help develop and refine their abilities.

Our Programs: 6 weeks to 6 years

Primary Program

In this program, grouping children in a family, or mixed-age levels, contributed to a more vibrant community, which encouraged younger children to model on older children, and inspired the older children to become teachers to their younger classmates.

Ages: 30 months - 6 years

Toddler Program

In this program the classroom activities are designed to further enrich the children’s cognitive experience, concentrating on the refinement of language, motor and social skills, the development of self-sufficiency, and the nourishment of self-esteem.

Ages: 18 months - 30 months

Infant program

Because the type and quality of early interactions has a long lasting effect on a child’s future development, our goal is to create a responsive environment – one that answers the needs of the young child on all levels, whether it be development of language skills, establishing a strong secure attachment with his or her caregiver, or fostering independence.

Ages: 6 weeks - 18 months
